decisions decisions

well the time has come when i have to decide what i want to put in to my exhibition, have loads of ideas from this project but cant possibly do them all, decided to go for an installation, having a childrens play using the text i have made out of the curse in to part of the installation.

group crit by the 3rd years

had a crit with the 3rd years which proved really helpful, finally took down the bricks of my wall as realised i have moved on from them at this moment in time i might go back to them at a later date. one of the 3rd year said that i seem to be a very textual artist, which i never really noticed before but i guess i do use allot of text in my work.  they suggested that i look at the curse even closer with the possibility of doing something with the text away from the drawings.  at this point i had a talk with mark and he suggested the possibility of destroying the curse in some way because people are scared of it should get rid of it,  burning the book after i make. a white witch said that to destroy it is to believe in it so rather than destroy it maybe change it in some way, started to look at dadaist movement. they  picked random words from text to make up new  text , no matter how nonsensical it might be.  i have decided to cut up every work of the 1069 word curse and pick the words out of a hat at random. after this i want to go in to town and get people in the centre of carlisle to pick the words. getting the public to interact with the word is important as it is the public of calrisle that believe in the curse.  we have to decide by Friday what we want as our choices in the exhibition that’s is on the 23rd January,  i want it to be some kind of installation of a child’s play area.

the curse

after doing the last couple of images i wasnt happy with then, it wasnt really get across what i wanted to say, rather than a book i started to think about a colouring in book, it would be interesting to see the viewers reaction when they see there children colouring it in then read the words that are in it,the curse its self is very dark and serious i really should have it up on here by now but its so long it would take up alot of room, il add the link , http://www.bbc.co.uk/cumbria/features/2003/07/restoration/the_curse.shtml if you want to read the curse follow the link above. started doing more pictures but with just the out line  and with i little amount of colour .

the curse of carlisle

having taken lots of photographs of carlilse and not sure where i can take them, decided to consintrate more on the curse of carlisle, started drawing child like drawing and adding the curse to it, kind of poking fun at the curse and people who believe in them.

carlisle

still looking at away of putting the carlisle in to my art work, have been taking more photographs this time of things close up that people dont generally look at. pictures i took where of ashtrays man hole covers, pub carpets not sure if i on the right track still want to have the curse of carlisle in this project.

carlisle

after my tutorial with kevin decided to, head in to town look at areas that people dont really look at to see if i can find beauty in it.

tutorial with kevin

had my tutorial with kevin today, i seem to have too different ideas at the moment, one with the photographs of the area, one with the curse of carlisle. helped talking to him told me rather than look at obvious places like the cathedral and the railway station, look to areas that i would not normally look at to find the beauty in it.

also need to look in to childrens books looking at idea for styles, writing an so on, he liked th idea of putting the curse in to a childrens book, making it in to a fairytale.

The Curse Of Carlisle

In 1525 the reivers had become such a nuisance that the then Archbishop of Glasgow, Gavin Dunbar, put a curse up all the reivers of the borderlands. the curse was 1,069 word long.  for the millenium the local council commisioned an art work based on the curse,Since the installation of the sculpted granite “Cursing Stone” inscribed with a 16th Century curse in one of Carlisle’s museums in 2001 misfortune has plagued the city.

Livestock herds around the city on the border with Scotland were wiped out by foot-and-mouth disease, there has been a devastating flood, factories have closed, a boy was murdered in a local bakery and Carlisle United soccer team dropped a league. white witches believe that a curse only exists if you believe in them . interesting topic im going to go visit the stone myself to have a look.

confusion is over

for the last two weeks i have been in a bit if a rut finally it came to me at 5am this morning, its not one building i should be looking at, its the whole area of carlisle areas that i find interesting, so i will look to my surroundings more, maybe areas of public interesting and find something different and unique about them.can one area represent the whole thing ??
